Singapore swimmers win more medals at FINA World Cup

Our swimmers had indeed done us proud in the FINA World Cup in singapore station. Tao li clinch her third silver at the competition in the women’s 50—metre butterfly, Marcus Cheah won silver in the men’s 1,500—metre freestyle.

Three other Singapore swimmers picked up bronze medals. Roanne Ho for the women’s 50 metre backstroke, Rainer Ng for the 1,500metre freestyle and Leonard Tan for the 100metre breaststroke.

However the crux of this topic which i am going to touch on is not about Singaporean winning such an important event in the sporting arena, but the passion for sports in Singapore. i had seriously no idea what is FINA or Swimming World Cup until i watch the news that our swimmers had won in many of the event. I dout many of the other Singaporean knew about this anyway. This is a World Cup, and from comments from spectators, not more than half the seats are filled in the swimming complex and what is more saddening is that many or rather most of the people there are not Singaporean.

We do not need to go to Beijing for Olympics or Thailand for SEA. Why did we not cherish the chance to wave our flag and scream for our country on an international event held on our very land? Whats more is that a World Record was broken in this event. First time in our history a World Record was broken on our land (ok water in this case). A historic moment was missed by us, the Singaporean.

i must say that there is really very little advertising for this. To think that the government has always wanted to promote sports and its advantages and many of us barely knew about such an important event. There are so much more that we can do before sports can really integrate into our lifestyle.
