Should Singaporeans change their mindset toward the aged population?

Minister-in-Charge of Ageing Issues Lim Boon Heng said that Singaporeans need to change their mindsets about ageing. I agree with him, because I think that the society should give the senior citizens the same opportunities as young people, for example employers should not look down on the working ability of senior citizens and should give them a chance to work in their company.

At present, a healthy lifestyle and the quality of our modern medical treatment should allow the senior citizens in Singapore are able to maintain a fit and able body. It should logically follow that they will not lose out to the young people in terms their value as a worker, since they are certainly far more experienced than the youths.

Furthermore, how a company can reap the benefits of employing senior citizens are pretty obvious. Firstly, it is that the employment of senior citizens will promote economic growth in Singapore, since a senior citizen’s quality of work as compared to a youth’s in the same job can potentially be higher, as they would have the advantage of both experience and skill. Therefore, by employing more senior citizens, an improvement in productivity of goods in factories will be ensured, thus allowing companies to earn more revenue and result in a growth of economic of Singapore.
