Singapore in push to become an Asian water technology hub

In a bid to be on the forefront of water technology, Singapore has stepped up its efforts to make it possible.

Firstly, the national water agency board signed a pact today with Toray which is an established membrane supplier in Japan to collaborate on research and development projects. The first project will be focusing on the use of nano-porous materials in membranes for water purification.

Secondly, a water-safety workshop in Singapore will be conducted and representatives from Vietnam, the Philippines and Laos will be attending. This workshop is conducted in agreement between the World Health Organization and Singapore earlier in August to promote safe drinking water.

It is commendable that the Singapore government is very active in promoting the development of water technologies. In an earlier post, I have also touched on similar issues in which its about the breakthrough in the water technology. The achievements of the Sinagpore government proves that they are very successful in their attempt. Furthermore, potential jobs such as water engineers, researchers and scientists can be created to ease the problem of unemployment or provide jobs for undergraduates.

If Singapore really becomes the forefront of water techonlogy, it would be very beneficial to Singapore as she will no longer rely heavily on her neighbours for water supply. It will also benefit nations around Singapore as they can learn from Singapore and at the same time stregthening bilateral bonds between nations. Being self dependent and self sufficient ensures that Singapore’s national security will be strengthened.
